Using your own AI plan
OpenCloset's on-device AI covers tagging and matching for free. For richer outfit suggestions, you can plug in an API key from a cloud provider instead — the request goes straight from your phone to them, never through us. Grab a key from whichever one you'd like to use below.
Claude (Anthropic)

Create an account
Go to platform.claude.com and sign in with Google, email, or SSO.

Open the API keys page
From the dashboard, go to Settings › API Keys.

Create a key
Click Create Key, give it a name like "OpenCloset", and copy the key it shows you — you won't be able to see it again after you leave the page.
Under scope, choose Default, not Same as account — the latter can pull in permissions the key doesn't need.

Add billing
Anthropic requires prepaid credits before a key will work. Add a payment method under Billing to activate it.
ChatGPT (OpenAI)

Create an account
Go to platform.openai.com and sign up. This is a separate login from the consumer ChatGPT app, even though it's the same company.

Open the API keys page
From the dashboard sidebar, go to API keys.

Create a key
Click Create new secret key, name it, and copy it immediately — OpenAI only shows the full key once.

Add billing
Add a payment method under Settings › Billing. Usage is billed per request, with no free tier.
Gemini (Google)

Open Google AI Studio
Go to aistudio.google.com/apikey and sign in with your Google account.

Create a key
Click Create API key. Google sets up a project for you automatically the first time.

Copy it
Copy the key from the list. Gemini includes a free usage tier, so you may not need to add billing right away.
Keep it safe
Treat an API key like a password: anyone who has it can spend money on your account. Don't share it, paste it into a public chat, or check it into anything — if a key ever leaks, delete it from the provider's dashboard and create a new one.
